Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of made to measure shirts versus standard measurement shirts?
Well, to state the obvious, the difference is in the fit. Made to measure shirts are cut according to your unique measurements, and therefore fit to the contours of your body better. You can wear the shirt knowing that it was made specifically for you. And you only have to measure yourself once; your measurements will be saved in our system for the ease of any future purchase. Measuring yourself by following our visual instructions should not take long.
However, we also acknowledge that sometimes it’s easier to just order shirts with standard neck and arm length measurements, as you would off-the-rack. If you find that standard shirt sizes (eg, 15.5 and 31/32) fit you just fine, then please don’t hesitate to choose this method. Our standard shirts also come with a slimmer, more contemporary fit. Components like collar and cuff styles would still be customizable.
Do you ship outside of the US?
We can and do ship outside of the US – rates are $15 per order. Unfortunately our website is only capable of processing US shipping, but please continue with your order and we will be in touch shortly thereafter about the shipping rate.
Can you ship faster than the normal 3-4 weeks?
Because every custom shirt is hand-sewn from scratch in Hong Kong, we need a two-week minimum time frame to fulfill each order (regardless of number of shirts per order). This delivery time frame is shorter than industry standards for custom clothing. After the tailored shirts are completed in Hong Kong, they are shipped to our US headquarters in New York. At that point, with an added shipping fee, you may request for your order to be over-nighted.
What are the care instructions for the shirts?
To ensure the longevity of your shirt, we recommend taking it to your local dry cleaners for “wash and press” laundering service. No harm would be done either if you prefer to wash and iron yourself. But we do discourage dry cleaning, as it wears down the fabric.
Will the shirts shrink after laundering?
Our shirts have a maximum shrinkage of 5% (approximately 1/4 inch), but all shirts are made to accommodate this slight shrinking.
What if my shirt doesn’t fit as well as I’d like it to?
We take every precaution to make sure your tailored shirt fits you just right. We try to make our “Body Measurement” and “Shirt Measurement” instructions for custom-made shirts as straightforward and precise as possible. Furthermore, if any of your inputted measurement numbers don’t look quite right to us, we will contact you for verification.
However, mistakes inevitably happen – and if we made the mistake of not cutting your shirt according to your correct measurements, then we will gladly remake the shirt or refund you the full amount for your purchase. All questions regarding remakes and refunds can be directed to email@example.com. In the event that you entered your measurements incorrectly, we may not be able to offer a refund, but please contact us and we will work with you to remedy the situation.
Can I send my best fitting shirt to you to measure, instead of measuring it myself?
Unfortunately we aren’t currently able to do this. If you’re having trouble though, feel free to get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
What if my body measurements change?
You can adjust your saved measurement numbers anytime you log in to your account.
What is the purpose of the full length back pleat?
Our back pleat is a relatively unique feature compared to most other shirts in that it’s attached down the full length of the shirt. It doesn’t provide extra flexibility in the fabric like a traditional center pleat, however we find this unnecessary due to the side darts included in the shirt. Additionally, we believe that the full length pleat provides a unique slimming look. However, if you would prefer another type of pleat, or no pleat at all, we can certainly accommodate your request – please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your specification after you place your order.
Do you allow other customizations?
For the most part, yes. You can email us at email@example.com to confirm (we can generally do things like pockets, pleats, etc). After you’ve place an order, please reply to the order confirmation with your specification.
What’s the difference between the Slim and Normal fit?
Our Slim fit is very form-fitting, designed to follow the contours of your body and torso. However, it still allows for freedom of movement and is not restrictive. Our Normal fit is still slimmer than most off-the-rack shirts, just with a bit more fabric than the Slim fit.
The difference in the fit is really just how much extra fabric we add to your measurements – what we call “tolerance”. Typically we add about 1-2″ of fabric to the measurements you provide us for the Slim fit, but this varies with the area of the shirt (for example, we take your wrist measurement as-is). With the Normal fit, we’ll add about another 2″, mostly to the torso, for a more relaxing fit.
